"Body Survived"
Debut Solo Art Exhibition
In response to my experiences with sexual assault, I sought out to create a body of work that served as my voice in a circumstance in which I felt suffocated and silenced, as victims of sexual trauma are subject to, particularly in the court system. This gallery serves as a firsthand account of my processing and experiences regarding sexual trauma.
This exhibition challenges the voyeuristic nature of the viewer in this scenario, subjecting them to a suspension between the planes of reality, memory, and reaction. In conjunction with the vulnerability of sharing an intensely personal message, I sought to challenge myself physically. To create 16 works of art consisting of drawings, paintings, poems, and conceptual sculptures that varied in aesthetic style, color palette, medium choice, etc.
This gallery idea was conceptualized over a period of one year, and subsequently materialized in three months.
